The problem with getting a star on the walk of fame is...

it costs several thousands of dollars to get one... and there's a process that gets done before it happens..

Kelly has been in music long enough, and qualifies as far as career goes.. but.. there is still a board that has to approve it, and they only approve a small number of stars each year. The application also has to be sponsored by others within the industry, then someone has to come up with a few thousand dolalrs for the star itself, and the city permits required for the event (which all goes through the city council).. it takes about a year for this all to be done, and the celebrities who have the money raised, and have bigger careers, get first dibs.

There really haven't been a lot of younger celebrities getting stars, usually they get them after 20 years or so in the industries.. but.. it can happen and has happened. if someone wants to fork up the loot for it. (the celebrity isn't allowed to ocnribute money themselves). the price actually varies depending on where the star is placed.. within the busy part of Holly Blvd being the most money.. then there is an annual fee to 'maintain' the star (you know, scrape all the gum and crap off it).. and insurance should it be stolen (and yes, that has happened, in spite of camera's up and down the BLvD). Most deceased celebrities who have stars left part of their estates, or have surviving family taking care of the maintenance.

p.s. The city doesn't consider the entire fee as a fee, but partially a donation to the city for it's upkeeping and tourist.

Some star trek fans tried getting Walter Keonig (Chekov) a star as he's the only original cast member without one... they weren't able to raise the $150,000 required (mostly due to location) 2 years ago... he's finally getting one.. in 2011, it was approved last year.

What I don't get s WHY they're not allowed to contribute the money themselves.It wouldn't be impossible though,IF people who signed were willing to offer a donation to this cause.

We CAN do this.It's very possible Thera,it will just take some doing.

it's worth a try, but what happens if you fall short? you can't just keep all the money. and most of the fans who would want to donate would be too young to donate.

The reason the celebs can't contribute themselves is simple.. it's something presented to them, and it wouldn't be fair, every celebrity, even the not-so-popular ones would ahve a star!
