On the cover:
Kelly Clarkson doesn?t mourn: ?Every broken heart makes me stronger.?

The interview:
Kelly Clarkson is single again

When Peter Evrard became our Idol 2003, another star was born in America, only her light shined much brighter than the light of our Kempic rocker. In such little time, Kelly Clarkson conquered the whole world and last year she also won two MTV Awards. March 19th she comes to Vorst Nationaal, but since she broke up with her boyfriend Graham Colton, we spoke to her for an exclusive chat.

Hey Kelly, let?s go straight to the point. Chuck from Simple Plan told me that he?d love to go out with sometime. And since it?s over between you and Graham Colton?
(laughs) ?That?s what Chuck tells me all the time. Whenever I see him, he?s yelling it, but I think it?s just fun. Those guys are crazy. A really cool band. But for Chuck: I don?t think it?s a good idea to date him. I don?t think his friend could laugh about it.?

What?! Chuck is gay? He always tells us about all the girls.
?Well, like I said, they?re crazy.?

Okay, let?s get serious now. How are you doing? Ending a relationship must hurt, doesn?t it?
?Yeah, pretty much. Especially because we both felt that God brought us together. But I?m not that sad to be honest. I still see him a lot and I?m really glad that I got to know him. This relation made me believe in love again, as weird as it may sound. God brought Graham and me together to heal our broken hearts and take away our fear for love.?

So you?re not afraid to start a new relationship?
?No, not at all. When I talk to Graham, he always tells me that there are walking lots of good guys out there and that I shouldn?t think that they?re all bad. You know, Graham will always be my best friend.?

Then why the hell did you break up?
?Well, maybe we?ll get back together someday, when we?re not as busy as we are now. It just didn?t work anymore. We barely saw each other, so we both decided that it wasn?t working anymore.?

Separating and suffering seems to be the story of your life. Your single ?Because of You? is about the divorce of your parents?
?That was a really difficult time for me, because every day I was a witness of their love for each other getting smaller and smaller. But later I got to see how they both built up a new relationship, so I actually got to see two sides of the story.?

And did you learn something from that?
?Yeah, definitely. I learned that you actually have to learn to trust people, but at that moment you can?t have fear that they?ll leave you. You have to be able to feel things like a human being. I was 16 when I wrote ?Because of You? and that?s when I came to the conclusion that it?s better to have a broken heart than to feel nothing at all. Since then my heart has been broken by a lot of guys, but that only made me stronger. You know, Graham told me that you always have to fight for love and maybe one day we?ll win that battle.?

We hope so for you, but how is it going with the rest of your life? We saw you at a party after the MTV Awards. We thought you didn?t like parties like those?
?Well, the party where you must have seen me was organised by my manager because I won Best Pop Video and Best Pop Female. They thought I couldn?t stay away, so I went, although those parties aren?t my thing at all. I don?t like that chic celebrity thing. I?d rather have a drink with my friends.?

So those parties for you are?
?deadly dull, yes. People always say that everybody knows everybody in showbiz, but that?s so not true. At that party the only people I knew were the people who convinced me to go. But we had fun.? (laughs)

Why are you laughing?
?Well, imagine this, my best friend Ashley and I were standing there being so bored, and then we jumped into the pool with our clothes on. In the Versace Mansion of the hotel, I still have to laugh when I think about it.?

You seemed pretty happy with your prizes.
?Happy?! That?s putting it lightly, I think. Man, I flipped out. Just imagine, I was nominated with Gwen Stefani and Mariah Carey, I never expected to win. When they said my name, I didn?t believe it at first. When I saw that both Gwen and Mariah weren?t standing up, that?s when I started believing it. I was totally flipping out, like crazy.?

You seemed enthusiastic, yes?
?Enthusiastic?! Man, when I came off stage and walked backstage, I hugged everyone I ran into. The first one was Snoop Dogg. I had never spoken to him before, but I did hug him. I think I hugged everyone backstage. Even the sound people.?

Did it feel like you finally got what you deserved?
?It wasn?t about that. I was just happy. Before I won ?American Idol?, I lived in LA for six months and it was the toughest time of life. Every day I was looking for a job and I got door after door slammed in my face. LA is such a weird city. Everything is about how you look. One time I was too fat, another time I was too skinny, then I was too young and somewhere else I was too old. It was crazy, but I learned a lot.?

What advice would you give to young people who want to make it?
?I would say: do not give up. If you want to be on stage, you have to realise that you?re going to be the centre of interest and that there are going to be a lot of people wanting to break you. But before that, I want to say: you have to realise that before you get on stage, there are going to be a lot of doors slammed in your face. That?s just how it goes.?

Well, those doors didn?t hurt your face. Thank you for talking to us.

Comment on the little picture:
Kelly does a Britney. Just tell us yourself, couldn?t they be sisters?
