This information may be appended to as we set up the final stages..
General Goal: Build working computers from old computers that people have no use for and will end up throwing out anyway, to donate to schools int he Ft. Worth area that can't afford them.
There are alot of area's that are low income, and the students and schools can't afford to buy computers, which are needed in todays education.
As most know already, there isn't much resale value on computers anymore, it is cheaper to buy a new one than to fix a computer most of the time, however, when you can gather alot of non working or older computers, there are no parts to buy, you can intermatch them all to build some working computers, which is the point of all this. There are alot of kids in need of a computer, and rather than throw them out, it's better to pay a few dolalrs shipping, and get them the computers they can't afford to buy, and need for school to help their education, and prepare for the world ahead.
What is needed: old computers and computer parts.. working or not working. They will be put together to build fully operational computers. Once a few have been built, they will be taken to Ft. Worth, and donated to a school or library in desperite need of them (we are searching for that school or library) on behalf of the Kelly Clarkson Official Fan Club and it's members, as well as in Kelly's name. Age of the computer does not matter, PC, Mac, or Laptop.
Goal Timetable: hopefully before this coming new years, second goal date would be towards the end of this school year so they have them for the start of the next school year. If it's a library, before next summer.
General FAQ
Can anyone participate in this project and how?
Yes, and in many ways. You can send old computers and parts, help find them and send them, and if you know how to build a working computer, help in setting them up, and bring them to the presentation when it is set, or we'll arrange a way to send the computers ahead.
What type of computers and parts?
Any and all, PC, Mac, Laptops especailly since parts are hard to find and expensive on laptops. Printers, Monitors, keyboards, mice, speakers, cases, even cables.
How do I send the computers/parts?
Send me a PM, or an email at
admin@kellyclarkson.com and I will give you the mailing address.
Is it a tax deductable donation?
Yes, and I can supply a reciept of donation to you if requested. Keep in mind the depreciation of computers is high, so the value is not alot. Your shipping costs are totally tax deductable, and the reciept of donation is proof that you made the donation if the IRS should question it (and they rarely do for small value donations)
Can I attend the presentation?
Possibly. This will depend on where they are donated. There will be a video of the presentation.
Will Kelly be a part of this personally?
We are hoping Kelly will be able to attend to make the presentation personally. We haven't bothered her with this during the tour, she has alot on her mind, but will be discussing it in detail as soon as time allows for it.
What happens with parts not used to build the working computers?
We hope to make this an ongoing thing, with at least 1 presentation a year to a differant school or library. So parts will be kept around as more computers come in to be used for working systems.
I know a school/Library in need around my area, can we donate to them?
We chose Ft. Worth being it's Kelly's hometown. We encourage others to start simular projects liek this around their own area's.
This project doesn't have to be limited to a single area, If you know how to put a computer together, feel free to start a local project, go around to various businesses explaining the project and see if they would help, hang flyers around, you'll be suprised how many people would be a part of a local project of this very same idea.
Businesses especailly like positive promotions of this sort, and many do throw away perfectly working computers that are just too old for their needs, without thinking of who may be able to benefit from that computer, once you explain the idea, msot would be happy to give you the computers instead of throwing them out, just for the positive publicity they would get for the good deed.
I don't have a computer or parts to donate but want to help, what can I do?
advertise.. let people know about it. The more the word is spread, the more computers we can build and donate.
We wont be putting anyones specific names on the computers (Except Kelly's), and it is a Fan Club project, but people outside the fan club are more than welcome to participate. Each computer will rad 'Donated by The Kelly Clarkson Official Fan Club, (other fans sites here), and all her fans around the world'
Can I send a money donation to help out?
For Cash donations, they may be made via PAYPAL (no account required, visa/mastercard/e-check accepted) with the following link
for mail in donations, please PM me for an address.
https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_xclick&business=alan%40kellyclarkson%2ecom&item_name=Education_Computes_Project&item_number=compdonation&page_style=fanclub&no_shipping=1&cn=Enter_Name_and_location%3f&tax=0¤cy_code=USD all cash donations will be used strictly for storage until the presentation time, expenses to transport them to the Ft Worth area for the presentation, and software/operating systems that are required.
Paypal receipts for the donations may be used for tax purposes as proof of donation.
I run a fan site and want to be a part of this, can that be arraged?
YES, and we will add your fan site's name to each computer as well. The more the merrier! and I can almost garauntee media coverage of it over time. This isn't something small, and not many fan bases go as far as Kelly's does for charity projects, this one being public for education, will surely be recongized, and I will be contacting Ft. Worth newspapers, TV, Radio when the presentation is set.
If nothing else, it will be good publicity for fan sites who get involved, who wouldn't want their site plugged in the newspaper?
